Yesterday, a dear friend left us to go on to be with Jesus. I met Priscilla and her sister 9 years ago in April at a Freedom Excursion. Little did I know, just over a year later her daughter would walk in my wedding. When she introduced herself, she pronounced her last name Hernandez with the proper Spanish rolling of the R. I didn’t understand what she was saying. Having been born and raised in Texas, I thought I was pretty familiar with the Hispanic culture. I had been living in Alabama so I said “Hernandez?” with the most southern drawl I could muster just to make fun of her. Sounds terrible but we hit off….because she would do the same to me.
